Players and parents have likely heard that phrase many times over from coaches either during hitting drills or during tournament warm ups. Oddly, the same principle is, at times, not applied to a players equipment, i.e. racquet and strings. Consistency in feel and performance is what every click to read rest of article 10% discount with mention of this website - 919-389-9208 Daniel Ebert( Cary, Apex ) CTP Program Alumni - Melissa Kandinata How many years did you train at CTP? I trained at CTP for about 2 years (junior year and senior year of high school) What parts of your tennis game did you work on and improve while at CTP? I would say that my basics and fundamentals, such as consistency and shot tolerance, improved tremendously while at CTP. Sean really helped me see the game in a strategic perspective; because of this, I was mentally tougher and was able to enjoy the game more than I used to. This experience helped me beat players I never thought I would have beaten, I vastly improved. Why did you decide to attend University of Richmond? I decided to attend UR because of the combination of excellent academics and athletics. I wanted to pursue a major in business, and UR has one of the top business schools in the country. I wanted a coach that places academics as a player's first priority, and that is exactly who Mark (our coach) is. I also wanted a school that have the skill to advance to the NCAA tournament. Richmond regularly wins conference every year, checking off an item on my list. I also wanted to go out of state, but not too far away. Richmond is about two and a half hours away from; this is the perfect distance for me. How has your freshman year been so far? It has been a really great experience! We won the conference title (A-10 conference) this year, and that was one of the most amazing feeling I have ever experienced as a tennis player. It has been a real blessing to have the team and the coach that I have in Richmond. What are the differences between junior tennis and college tennis? The team. In college tennis, we play as a team. It is a fun twist to the individualistic nature of the game. Having the team makes practicing and playing matches 10 times more fun. I absolutely love the team aspect of it. The free stuff! When we travel to away matches, we get free lodging and food. Free attires and gears are also the best! Everything is paid for, and it is wonderful. What parts of your game will you be focusing on in the next year? I am trying to incorporate being aggressive and coming into the net more, while still improving the basics of consistency and shot tolerance I have established at my time in CTP. Finding a balance between these two elements is what I will be working on. What is your typical tennis and class schedule at Richmond? I have classes in the morning with some breaks in between. Practice usually starts at 3pm and ends at 5:30pm or 6pm. After practice, we'll have dinner. After showering, it's straight to studying. I usually study in the library. The duration of studying varies on the work load for the day. On a typical week day, I would study until midnight and then go to sleep. With tennis going on, I've learned that it's important to manage my time wisely and use the free times that I have to study. It can be hectic, but I enjoy it. What is your favorite pre-match meal? Nothing in particular. A banana or bar would suffice. Could you beat Sean Ferreira in a singles match today? No problem ;) Stay up to date with the Academy Newsletters!
